Bake-O-Lite 2009 (43" x 21" x 30")
As I accumulate more years of digging around in the trash I can’t help but predict a day when there is no longer enough interesting old aluminum around for me to play with. In preparation for this disaster I set out to tackle my growing collection of bakelite radios. Some of them have a good deal of character and design to to them but I have always been hesitant to work with them. The material is very brittle and stubborn, but with a little experimentation I was able to come up with this piece. I have documented its process a little bit here and here.
Materials:
Bakelite radios, record player, golf caddy cart wheels, bicycle brake levers, VU meters, windshield wiper motors, plasma globe, tricycle part, bandsaw part, asphalt rake, ice cream scoops, cooking pan lids, stock aluminum, LEDs, switches, knobs.
