The principles that made this piece special to me were not very complicated.  The idea that corkscrews could easily be made to seem like people could be reproduced, once the bitterness of having my work destroyed wore off.  Well, this took a little longer than I thought it would.  Many months ago I took my first stab at it.  This time mating a corkscrew to the mechanism from a fishing reel.  This allows the arms to wave up and down, and rotate simultaneously.

Unfortunately despite this small mechanical success I still could not help seeing the object in the context of the piece that was destroyed.  It is only in the last few weeks that I have been able to come up with a direction to finish the project.

In keeping with my current series of box/diorama works, this figure will be housed in a tiny decadent environment.  I’m really pouring on the kitsch with this one: disco ball, brass framed mirrors, velvet flocked wall paper etc.  It is my hope to capture some of the nuance of the original piece in a way that still sets its self apart as totally new.
